Initially penned in the Preamble to the United States Constitution, this phrase encapsulates the ongoing struggle to create a nation that better serves its people—striving for justice, unity, and the common good. In today's polarized political climate, the future of the United States hangs in the balance, making this election one of the most consequential in our nation's history. The weight of our civic duty in this election cannot be overstated.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The phrase "a more perfect union" is more than a historical artifact; it is a living, breathing ideal calling each generation to work towards a better, more just society. It acknowledges that while perfection may be unattainable, pursuing improvement is essential. This sentiment resonates deeply as we approach Patriot's Day, a commemoration of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. Patriot's Day honors the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for the principles that would eventually be enshrined in the Constitution—a document designed to create a government "of the people, by the people, for the people."
